Former US-Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, defines Iran, Russia, China, North Korea or Venezuela as the bad guys. Even though he has no official post in the incoming administration of President Trump, he delivers strong messages to the bad guys.
On Monday, 6th of January 2025, he visited Taiwan, sending a strong signal to Taiwan and China. He said that during Trump’s first term 2017-2021, the administration developed „what we believed was a pretty effective model for deterrence against adversaries who wanted to undermine the set of rules and value sets that the people of Taiwan and the people of the United States hold dear, a very different set of values than those that sit in mainland China inside the Chinese Communist Party.“
When Pompeo was part of the first Trump administration, he had approved multiple arms sales to Taiwan and lifted some restrictions on official bilateral exchanges.
« Everybody is talking to everybody, except to the Biden administration. » Mike Pompeo, former Secretary of State and former CIA director, is a mouthpiece of the Conservative Think Tank Hoover Institution. Shortly after Trump won the election, Pompeo could boldly claim that the new administration already had started preparing the ground behind the curtains.
Mike Pompeo and Iran
On Thursday, 9th of January 2025, Mike Pompeo joined a conference with the MEK (Mujahedin-e Khalq) of Maryam Rajavi and had a 20 minutes conversation with the leader in Camp Ashraf 3, Albania. MEK in the eyes of some US policymakers is the best organized Iranian exile group. Although there are a lot of controversies between Iranians inside and outside Iran about the true nature of the group and its goals for a future Iran. The group has strong adversaries between the monarchist adherents, as well as being feared for its military potential by the current regime in Iran.
Pompeo is a staunch supporter of the MEK for years now. At the meeting on Thursday, he claimed: “New U.S. policy needs to create even more space for the Iranian resistance to be vigilant on the ground. The focal point of this policy has to be recognition of the Iranian people’s right to resist and recognition of the National Council of Resistance of Iran as the single best alternative to the clerics ruling Iran.” More neutral observers fear a future Iran dominated by a group rooted in a Marxist-Islamist ideology that might not embrace a free Iran or fulfil all the promises raised by Maryam Rajavi during the latest conference: a democratic and pluralistic republic based on separation of religion and state, gender equality and a peaceful, non-nuclear Iran.
Ground forces
The first serious blow to the regime in Iran was initiated by Trump and his team, when they eliminated Qassem Soleimani at the airport in Baghdad on the 3rd of January 2020. Further serious blows followed last year, mostly dealt by Israel to the regime. With the vicious and humiliating attack of Hamas on October 7th 2023, the world leaders started to understand better the detrimental influence, the destructive goals and the deceitful methods of the regime in Iran for the region and the world.
Since then, exiled Iranians like Prince Reza Pahlavi or Vahid Beheshti have been invited to speak in Israel and the US about the threats of the regime and their vision for a free Iran. Mr. Beheshti kept on conveying the message to Israel that the regime is mainly a paper tiger that threatens a lot but can easily be targeted. On October 26, in a retaliatory strike against Iran’s offensive and defensive systems, Israel strongly weakened the military capacities of the dictatorial regime.
With the fall of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad regime and Israel’s destruction of 80% of Syria’s air force, the next aerial blow to the regime in Iran might be a decisive nail into the coffin of the regime. But to overcome the regime and its Revolutionary Guards, it might be necessary to deploy some ground forces. Some experts speculate the military arm of the MEK might be deployed somewhere close to the Iranian border (Azerbaijan or Iraq or another country) in order to overcome the Revolutionary Guards while they are busy with Israel’s next air strikes. Mike Pompeo might have delivered this plan to Maryam Rajavi. The signs of the times clearly show that the weak regime in Iran is doomed to fall. We don’t know when, we don’t know how. But there are many preparations for the above scenario.
